SSL And Dedicated IPs
SSL and dedicated IP settings matter when you operate inbound mail, webmail, custom hostnames, or controlled outbound reputation.
SSL
PING8 can show SSL status for domain mail hosts. SSL protects webmail, submission, and other TLS-enabled access paths.
Verify:
- The hostname resolves to the right server.
- Ports required by your deployment are reachable.
- The certificate covers the hostname.
- Renewal is monitored.
Dedicated IP
A dedicated IP is useful when you want one domain or tenant to build reputation independently.
Use a dedicated IP when:
- A client brand needs isolated sending reputation.
- A high-volume sender should not share an outbound IP.
- Compliance requires a documented outbound path.
- You are warming a new sending lane.
Warmup
New IPs should start with low volume and increase gradually. Watch:
- Deferrals
- Bounces
- Complaint rate
- Provider-specific throttling
- Queue age
PTR/rDNS
Dedicated IPs need reverse DNS. Ask the IP provider to set the IP to the mail hostname, such as:
203.0.113.10 -> mail.yourdomain.com
