Contacts Model
PING8 organizes campaign audiences through groups, subscribers, tags, status, and suppression.
Objects
| Object | What it does |
|---|---|
| Group | The primary list you send campaigns to. |
| Subscriber | A person or email address inside a group. |
| Tag | An internal label for targeting, segmentation, or workflow state. |
| Status | Whether a subscriber can receive mail, such as subscribed or unsubscribed. |
| Suppression | A safety rule that prevents sending to a recipient. |
| Subscription form | A public way for people to join a group. |
Groups vs tags
Use groups for major audience boundaries:
- Newsletter subscribers.
- Trial users.
- Customers.
- Event attendees.
- Client-specific lists.
Use tags for targeting inside groups:

Segmenting campaigns
When creating a campaign:
- Select a group.
- Add tags if you need a narrower audience.
- Choose tag logic:
ORsends to subscribers with any selected tag.ANDsends only to subscribers with all selected tags.
- Confirm the recipient count before testing.
Common mistakes
- Using separate groups for every small targeting idea instead of tags.
- Importing unpermissioned lists.
- Forgetting that unsubscribed or suppressed recipients should not receive campaign mail.
- Sending before confirming the group count and tag logic.
