Tracking and Suppression
Tracking and suppression protect both measurement quality and recipient safety.
Tracking
PING8 can track:
- Opens through a tracking pixel.
- Clicks through rewritten links.
- Delivery lifecycle through MTA or provider events.
Use tracking when:
- Your privacy policy explains it.
- You need campaign engagement reporting.
- You understand that opens are approximate because some clients block or prefetch pixels.
Suppression
Suppression prevents mail from being sent to recipients who should not receive it.
Common suppression reasons:
- Unsubscribed.
- Hard bounced.
- Complained.
- Manually suppressed.
- Invalid or risky address.
Marketing defaults
For marketing campaigns:
- Keep unsubscribe links enabled.
- Keep suppression active.
- Test tracking links before launch.
- Review failure details after every first send to a new list.
Common mistakes
- Disabling unsubscribe links for campaign mail.
- Re-importing unsubscribed contacts as subscribed.
- Treating open rate as exact.
- Sending to a purchased list and expecting DNS authentication to compensate for poor list quality.
