Tracking and Suppression

Tracking and Suppression

Tracking and suppression protect both measurement quality and recipient safety.

Tracking

PING8 can track:

  • Opens through a tracking pixel.
  • Clicks through rewritten links.
  • Delivery lifecycle through MTA or provider events.

Use tracking when:

  • Your privacy policy explains it.
  • You need campaign engagement reporting.
  • You understand that opens are approximate because some clients block or prefetch pixels.

Suppression

Suppression prevents mail from being sent to recipients who should not receive it.

Common suppression reasons:

  • Unsubscribed.
  • Hard bounced.
  • Complained.
  • Manually suppressed.
  • Invalid or risky address.

Marketing defaults

For marketing campaigns:

  1. Keep unsubscribe links enabled.
  2. Keep suppression active.
  3. Test tracking links before launch.
  4. Review failure details after every first send to a new list.

Common mistakes

  • Disabling unsubscribe links for campaign mail.
  • Re-importing unsubscribed contacts as subscribed.
  • Treating open rate as exact.
  • Sending to a purchased list and expecting DNS authentication to compensate for poor list quality.
